COVID-19 and it’s effect on my editing

Hello! My group and I’s movie is still coming along and we are working it to be the best version we know it can be. There is still some editing however that needs to be done. On normal occasions my group could work in our media studies class, study hall, or outside of school to work together and fix our titles and/or any of our cuts. As much as we would like this to be the case it isn’t. This coronavirus has taken away many of our opportunities. It is not as easy for all of us to be together working hands on our project at the moment. All for safety reasons of course. Other than this past week or so we haven’t experienced a bump in the road like this. But real movie makers in the industry to come across major challenges as well and find ways to work around or over come them. So that is what we are doing . For instance instead of meeting up in person all of us jumped on a group face time call to discuss our movie. We each looked over it and review the parts we thought were good and parts that weren’t as good. We evacuated our movie as critiquily as we could. We even came up with ideas of what some of us could do on our own to improve the movie’s edits and then to send them back into the group. As much as COVID-19 has an impact on us it hasn’t shut down our ability to communicate with each other, which is very important in such a huge group project. We will continue to work out these struggles together. Hopefully things soon will become more normal but even not we will still make sure our final task project is up to Cambridge’s expectations.

COVID-19 and it’s complications on my movie

Hello! My group and I are in our final stages of our creating our movie. Although our final task isn’t completely finished to how we would like it, it’s very close. We have the necessities included and just need some more time to clean up and smoothen out the opener. Under normal circumstances my group and I would be making plans to get together outside of school to review go over and add any finishing touches, and/or re shoot or re edit for our movie. Unfortunately as of right now we are not under normal circumstances. Currently there is a Coronavrius, otherwise known as COVID-19, outbreak that is occurring. This pandemic has gotten so bad that school has been closed down and most families, including my own are self quarantining. Obviously this has a major effect on my group’s scheduling. We are now not able to keep up with our exact plan and are unable to meet up in person to work on the movie whenever we want. As much as we would like to be together and stay on schedule, we need to take precautions for our health. I understand that something like this has not happened before, meaning most of us are very confused and concerned for the future and what this break means for the rest of the school year. Even through this challenge my group and I will persevere and stay on track with blogging our journey and finishing up our movie. We are faced with a great challenge but we will be doing the best we can. Whenever we have the availability we will get together to work on our project to get it to perfection. And even if that isn’t so soon we can always call or communicate online to share ideas and solutions to our current problems. I’m very much looking forward to things going back to normal. I hope that very soon the coronavirus isn’t an issue and that we can continue on as per usual. In terms of regular life and school life. My journey in this class and with this final task has recently drastically changed and I’m not so sure what will happen next. But I will be prepared.

Soon to begin more editing

Hello! Our group as of right does have a completed edited project, however how it is right now will not be how it looks as the final project. We did have some complications when it came to our editing. The editing software that we are using is IMovie. However the amount of editing applications offered on the mobile app IMovie on a IPhone is much less than on a laptop. On the phone they only offer one type of font with limited transitions, which won’t do. We needed to transport and re edit on the laptop so that we had a bunch of fonts and editing strategies to choose from. Unfortunately only Ava and Morgan has access to this on their lap top at home but not Jake or myself. Ava and Morgan were having trouble figuring out how to use the editing software, doing things such as splitting the clips or inputting music. So Morgan called me because I have a greater knowledge on editing on IMovie. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to be much help over the phone because it’s such a hands on task. Due to this complication we had to rethink our plan. So after a few group discussions we decided to just edit as much and as good as we can on my phone’s app IMovie and then the following weekend go over to Ava and Morgan’s home to finish the final edits and in the correct way. So that’s just what we did. I cut, split, and arranged the clips as needed in the app and put in the music. I put the titles in the places they needed but obviously not in the font we wanted. But that will be fixed shortly. It ended up looking alright but it will look much better and cleaner after we re edit on the Macbook’s IMovie. I’m so excited to finally be able to fully edit. I think it’s going to turn out very good.

Movie magic editing

Hello! Now that my group, Avalon, Morgan, Jake, and I have completed all of our first round of filming it was time to begin editing. We decided to use the software IMovie. Before this process begun, we had a few things to keep in mind. I obviously didn’t want the finished product to end up looking choppy so I wanted to make sure it transitioned smoothly. We also needed it to be under the correct time limit which was 2 minutes max. When I originally put all of our clips together we were way over time, we had around 3 mins and 12 seconds. So one of the first things I did was go through and cut the more unnecessary parts and shorten some clips. Most of them now look smoothe but some ended a bit weird so we might just need to re-film those parts. Our movie also needed music somewhere within it. I found some copy free creepy music from YouTube and screen recorded it off of my phone and went back into the IMovie app and inserted the audio to put as a back drop. I put this music in a couple different scenes. In the one of Thomas, Bella, and Hannah walking towards Amelia’s murder scene towards the end. And where Bella is searching for Amelia in the hallways as it cuts to the watchers foot steps. I also added a suspense sound effect for when Hannah finds the sign in the kitchen. I’m not sure if we will be keeping that in yet. Then of course we needed to edit in our titles. When doing so I referenced my notes to make sure it was in the correct order. Also made sure that they were evenly spaced as much as possible. I ended the last clip of the black screen, from the lights being shut off, with the Directed By credit. This is what we’ve done so far for editing. And will probably go back and re-edit as we get more feedback and re-evaluate it. I’m looking forward to reaching the finished final product.

Peer Reviewing Time!

Hello! Now that everyone in my AICE Media class has a somewhat put together 2 min movie opener completed it was time to give each other some feedback. We were randomly assigned a number for our own group and then a number was listed as to what group we were going to be reviewing. The group that my group and I got was group number 11. My group and I watched it all the way through once and then started on our review.  Their movie was about a girl who had a nightmare of some creepy chaser running around after another girl through a grass field for an unknown reason and she wakes up to find out the chaser is with her in her bedroom. They called theirs “The Nightmare”. Their film was just under the minimum amount, by 5 seconds. However they did mention to us before that it’s not yet finalized and by the end it will meet the time requirement. Within the 1 min and 45 seconds group 11 was able to create and story that a viewer like me was able to follow. I thought all of their transitions were clean and none of them looked too choppy which was nice. For this project we were required to include 10 title slides and for them to be in a certain order. This group did a good job of including all 10 however a couple of them were swapped in the order sequence. Which is an easy fix. The film had an overall good lighting and everything was easy to see clearly. Sound was also very good. There wasn’t much dialogue but the whole time I was able to hear and understand any sound that was occurring. Their group does need to include a song though which is a suggestion I made for their sounds. Perhaps a creepy or suspenseful tune to add to their mood. Group 11 also made sure to avoid accidentally capturing any tripods or filming equipment in the background of their shots. Then we went back in through to dissect whether or not they had all of the mandatory shots and at what time they were. This group had almost all of the required shots except for a few, but that’s okay because they can just go reshoot and add them in. Overall, I did really enjoy their film and think so far they are doing a good job and just need a few improvements like the music and extra shots.
